School Profile

The Hamilton School District prides itself in having a very healthy, academic reputation.

School History

Our school endured many changes over the years. It was originally named Hamilton Union High School because it served as the educational facility for freshmen and sophomores in the Northwestern County area. By 1965, all four classes were added, and the first senior class graduated from HHS. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, HHS endured many physical and visual changes as well as an updated school layout. In the 1990s, the metal canopy in front of the school, which has been there since day one, was removed, and a science wing with eight brand-new classrooms was added to the western end of the building, connecting the two main hallways. Between the 1990s and now, the gymnasium and wrestling room were officially divided, the library's wavy roof was removed, and the Fine Arts Center was added. To accomodate for the suburbanization of the local area and sudden influx of more students, larger classes were shuffled around the building to form "wings"; for example, hallway B is the dedicated language wing, and the main hallway represents mathematics. Hamilton High School also changed its schedule from eight periods to four, including a 30-minute, daily homeroom. Hamilton is also working to recover from a staffing problem that the students know about all too well. To simplify, a small combination of computer error and increasing class size had created a system in which part-time educators had to move from one room to the next, and full-time teachers had to instruct increased class sizes, thus increasing their workload. All teachers working part-time will finally have the ability to work full-time, resolving the schedule errors for the 2011-2012 academic year.
